The tickets are $100 each or can be bought in shares of $5 of up to 20 people with one (1) grand prize draw of $10,000 on January 27^th, 2012, 8:40 a.m. on CFCB Radio Station. The Newfoundland and Labrador Laubach Literacy Council Inc. (NLLLC) will be making its Boardroom available for rent at a competitive rate. NLLLC is located at 57 Humber Road, in Corner Brook, NL. Parking is available at the back of the building. The Boardroom seat 10 -12 people comfortably and come equipped with tables, chairs and wireless internet. The City of Corner Brook has extended the deadline and boundary of the Business Improvement Program. The deadline is extended until Friday July 8^th at 4:30pm. The program boundaries have been expanded to include the Commercial Street area (Commercial Street, Brook Street, Marsh Street, and Lester Avenue) as well as Maple Valley Road. Currently, the program is offered to businesses located in the downtown area including, lower Caribou Road (up to # 26), Broadway, West Street, Main Street, Herald Avenue, Church Street and Park Street.

The program provides property or business owners a tax credit for work done to improve the front facade of the building.   According to Mayor Greeley, “the City of Corner Brook is pleased to renew this program based on the success of last year’s program”.  In 2010 the following companies qualified for a tax credit under the program: Jennifer’s on Broadway, 9 & 11 Main Street, Sorrento Pizza Pasta & Grill on Park Street, and King & Penney Law Firm on West Street.

The tax credit is substantial at 50% of project value, with up to a $10,000 tax credit for a facade renovation that is worth $20,000 or more.  Owners can apply for the tax credit by outlining the noticeable improvements to be made to their building.    

Applications will be approved based on good design, overall improvement to the building and Applicants are strongly encouraged to incorporate heritage components into their design.

Funds raised will support our Summer Reading for Fun program which offers one-on-one tutoring for school children needing a learning bridge over the summer months, as well as one-on-one tutoring for adults who wish to improve basic functional skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, numeracy and other essential skills.
